Make a difference in people's lives! Be the catalyst that brings US women and US colleges together to assist female change-makers in post-conflict countries. We are seeking a full-time Community Building Coordinator. Reporting to the Community Building Director, you will support the 2-person, and in the fall, 3-person Community Building team in all community activities, including mentorship, volunteer work, university recruiting, coordinating the administration of the social impact Make a Change program, and relationship building. 

 

About SHE-CAN

SHE-CAN is a global non-profit organization that builds female global leadership in post-conflict countries. We help passionate young leaders win scholarships to U.S. colleges and universities, provide leadership training, and pair them with U.S. mentor teams to help them thrive in college and launch change-agent careers upon returning home. To date, we have helped 133 young women from Rwanda, Cambodia, Liberia, and Guatemala win $40M+ in full scholarships at top U.S. colleges. 

When fully staffed, the organization has 15 full-time employees and four in-country Coordinators. The Board of Directors consists of seven members. SHE-CAN’s annual gala raised more than $1.3M last year. SHE-CAN has 600 mentors and more than 150 volunteers across the U.S. SHE-CAN has established formal relationships with a total of 18 top U.S. colleges that, over the past 14 years, have provided full-ride scholarships for our scholars. Role and Responsibilities 

  • Community Member Recruitment: Support the Community Building Director in growing the SHE-CAN community of mentors, volunteers, and colleges. You assist with planning and outreach, research, meetings and events, online info sessions, applications and contracts, database management, and travel logistics.

  • Event Planning: Coordinate and help plan, in collaboration with the Director of Community Building, SHE-CAN’s Mentor Circle events, Freshman Welcome, holiday events, mentor and college recruiting events, Make A Change Showcase event, and other community engagement events. 

  • Workshop Management: Support Community Building with planning and executing online workshops and orientations for SHE-CAN mentors, scholars, and volunteers.

  • Writing and Design: Assist with the writing, editing, and design of the department’s invitations, collateral, and communications.

  • Research: Supports prospective employer, mentor, volunteer, and university meeting preparation and actively finds new leads for growing our community programs.

  • Make A Change Application and Selection Process: Help coordinate aspects of the SHE-CAN Make A Change program, including applications, application workshops, the Selection Committee, and the selection process. 

  • Administrative: Supports community-related organization, including scheduling and confirming meetings and calls, tracking applications, coordinating event materials and outreach, drafting and sending community correspondence, and tracking information on community members and leads in our database.

  • Management: Future opportunities to manage projects and interns as needed.

Compensation

  • This is a 40-hour a week salaried position, Monday-Friday 9:30-5:30.

  • Our team works in our Mill Valley office Tuesday-Thursday, and remotely Monday and Friday. During busy periods, you may need to come into the office on some remote days.

  • On-site: Candidates must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area within a reasonable commuting distance of our office. The in-person aspect of this job is non-negotiable. This position will require minimal evenings and weekend work. 

  • As a global organization with evening and weekend events, you will need to occasionally be accessible outside these stated hours.

  • Compensation: $70,000-$75,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
